Disability Showcase Day in Ipswich - July 2010

We held our 8th Disability Showcase Day on 24th July 2010. This event was part of the official London 2012 Open Weekend and came just after we'd just received the 2012 Inspire Mark for our Showcase Days.

The event was held at Northgate Sports Centre in Ipswich and as well as the usual taster sessions in a range of sports, included some cultural workshops in dance, theatre and music.

123 disabled people enjoyed the day, along with many other staff, coaches, volunteers and carers. The sports on offer included cycling, football, athletics, boccia, sailing and fishing (these two were held in Levington and Needham), archery, darts, judo and powerlifting.

The Showcase Days are part of Optua's Suffolk Disability Sport Academy project which aims to encourage more disabled people to get into sport and become more fit and active. A new DVD of disability sport opportunities in the Ipswich area was also launched at the event. This will soon be available from Optua and the Ipswich Disability Sport Forum so please let us know if you are interested.
