Archery

We regularly run beginners' archery courses in Suffolk. We have a six-week course running in Woodbridge from late February and in Lowestoft from Monday 12th April. Please contact us for more information.


Athletics

West Suffolk Tigers athletics club is a new disability athletics club based at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre. For more information call 01284 757495 or 01473 836770.

The Orwell Panthers are a successful athletics club for disabled people in the Ipswich area. Please go to their website for more information.


Boccia

Boccia sessions are running every Monday from 5.30pm to 7pm at Gainsborough Sports Centre in Ipswich. For more information contact Cathy Churchyard on 01473 822903.


Climbing Wall sessions

Climbing wall sessions are running every Monday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket. The sessions are running until 22nd March and cost £2.75. For more information call the Leisure Centre on 01449 674980.


Cycling at Alton Water.

Enjoy an afternoon's cycling on the first Friday of the month from March to September 2010. Transport is available or you can meet us there. The cost is £5 for cycling and £8 for transport. These costs are reduced if you are a member of the Leisure Plus club.

The dates for 2010 are: 5th March, 9th April, 7th May and 4th June. Please call 01473 836770 for more information.

Football

New monthly sessions are now running at Woodbridge Town Football Club. The sessions cost £2 and are open to anyone with a disability. Please call 01473 836770 for information.

There are also regular disability football sessions in Lowestoft. Please call 07860 258412 or 01502 523635 for information.

Ipswich Town Football Club Ability Counts. Ipswich Town Football Club's Community Trust runs the Ability Counts disability football sessions. For more information call 01473 400513.

Cornard Dynamos are a football club providing opportunities for disabled people aged from eight to adult. The team meets every Saturday at Great Cornard Upper School from 1pm to 2pm. For more details contact Will Hunt on 01787 310952.

Stow-ability. Football Session for all abilities on Friday evenings from April to October. The sessions take place from 6pm to 7pm at Stowmarket Middle School (On the all-weather pitch. £2 each session. Followed by a drink and a chat at Stowmarket Leisure Centre (Optional). Golf

Sessions run every Tuesday at Stowmarket Golf Centre. Optua also runs transport and a supported session with staff and volunteers on the second Tuesday of each month from 11am to 1pm. The sessions cost £8 and the transport costs £4 per session or you can meet us there.


Powerlifting

Suffolk Spartans is an inclusive powerlifting club based at East Bergholt Sports Centre, which was set up with support from Optua. Their website can be accessed at www.suffolkspartans.co.uk.


Sailing

East Anglian Sailing Trust (EAST). EAST provide sailing opportunities for disabled people on the River Orwell near Ipswich. EAST have plenty of sailing events and opportunities for disabled people to try sailing in 2009. For more information you can call 0333 088 3278 or visit their website at www.e-a-s-t.org.uk.

Sitting Volleyball and multi sports session

This session at Great Cornard Sports Centre is now providing other sports as well as sitting volleyball. The sports on offer now include football, goalball, boccia, basketball, Kwik Cricket, hockey, kurling and athletics. Come along to find out more! Sessions take place from 10am to 12noon on the last Saturday of every month and the cost is £2 per session. Big Splash swimming sessions

These are supported swimming sessions run by Optua across Suffolk for anyone with a disability. Click here for more details.


Teamipswich disability swimming

Swimming sessions for disabled people of all ages and abilities take place in Ipswich on Wednesday evenings and Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The venues and times depend on which sessions you attend.

Tennis

New monthly disability tennis sessions are now running on the third Wednesday of the month at Saxmundham Tennis Club. The sessions are aimed at anyone with a disability aged 16 and over and cover wheelchair and regular tennis. They run from 11am to 1pm and cost £2 per person/per session. Wheelchair Basketball

The Iceni Warriors wheelchair basketball club is currently taking a break but we hope to get sessions going again soon. If you are interested in joining the club when it restarts please call Optua Leisure on 01473 836770.

The Bury Bombers wheechair basketball club meets regularly in Bury St Edmunds. For more information visit their website here.


Wheelchair football

The Ipswich Charioteers Wheelchair Football has recently been given its own charity status. The team is currently meeting using the Bramford Road Methodist Church in Ipswich until February 2010. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the sessions or taking part please contact Claire O'Brien-Ellington on 07786 062656. Ipswich Sports Club for the Disabled

This club are based at Northgate Sports Centre in Ipswich and provide sports and social facilities for disabled people and their friends and families in the Ipswich area. The main sports are carpet bowls and wheelchair basketball although they have facilities for other activities. The club operates on a Tuesday evening between 7pm and 9pm.
