Any disabled people inspired by the Beijing Paralympics can sample a range of Paralmypic sports this September when Optua brings its Disability Sport Showcase event to Mildenhall.
Optua is holding its fifth Disability Sport Showcase Day at the Mildenhall Dome Leisure Centre on Saturday 27 September. The all-day event is part of Optua's Disability Sport Academy Project and will give disabled people the chance to try out a range of Paralympic sports for free.
People attending will be able to attend taster sessions in up to four of the following sports - archery, athletics, boccia, goalball, football, judo, powerlifting, swimming, sitting volleyball, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis. The event is completely free and available to anyone with a physical, sensory or learning disability. Anyone is welcome including those living across the border in Cambridgeshire or Norfolk.
Our Disability Sport Academy project aims to encourage more disabled people to get into sport and maybe even help them on the road to the 2012 Paralympics in London.
David Finn, manager of the Optua Leisure service which is organising the event, said:
The event runs from 9am to 4pm and Optua are also providing transport on an accessible coach from West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket Coach Station for £8 per person.
