Disability Sport Showcase Day in Stowmarket

We held our seventh Disability Sport Showcase Day on 26 September 2009 at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre and Stowmarket High School.

Nearly 100 disabled people came along to enjoy the all-day event which gave people the chance to try a range of disability sports including archery, badminton, boccia, cycling, fencing, football, golf, judo, powerlifting, swimming, tennis and wheelchair tennis. Those taking part were also able to have a go at the Leisure Centre's Climbing Wall.

The event was open to anyone with a physical, sensory or learning disability. Optua has now organised Disability Sport Showcase Events in each of the seven borough and districts in Suffolk and is already planning another event for 2012. The sports were all run by experienced coaches and several volunteers also helped to make the day go smoothly.

The Showcase Days are part of Optua's Suffolk Disability Sport Academy project which aims to encourage more disabled people to get into sport and become more fit and active. We are very grateful for the financial support received by several organisations which enabled us to run the event.
