Saturday 26 April 2008
Our fourth Disability Sport Showcase Day on Saturday 26 April 2008 at Great Cornard Sports Centre was again another successful and inspirational event enjoyed by many disabled people.
More than 80 disabled participants and many more carers, coaches, staff and volunteers took part in the event. The wide range of disability sports on offer were available to anyone with a physical, learning or sensory disability who were able to take part in up to four taster sessions during the day.
Sue Edwards took her two children along to the event and was very impressed: "Thank you for a fantastic day. My children (Evie and Jake) had an absolutely brilliant time. The range of sports available to try was very impressive.
"I was also very impressed with the high level of organisation of the event down to the tiniest detail - everything clearly sign posted and good use of symbols, large print etc to ensure that the person trying the activity could have as much control over organising themselves to attend the activities as possible. I would recommend these taster days to everyone. Evie and Jake were absolutely shattered afterwards and had discovered muscles they didn't know they had but they were full of chatter all the way home about the different sports and all that they had seen and done during the day."
The event was organised as part of Optua's Disability Sport Academy Project and was supported by PJK Charitable Trust, Babergh District Council, SGRfm Operation Santa Claus, BT Helping Hand Charitable Trust, Suffolk Single Gateway and Cedars Park Primary School.
