Volunteering in Mid Suffolk

Anyone can volunteer. It's very rewarding and there is a huge range of opportunities to choose from across Mid Suffolk so there should be something for everyone.

The opportunities include:

• driving community vehicles
• helping out at the Museum of East Anglian Life (see picture on the right)
• gardening
• conservation
• shopping for other people
• visiting and befriending
• helping in the offices of voluntary organisations
• getting involved in community projects and events
• getting involved in sport
• We can also place volunteers with national and international charities.

What is volunteering?

The Suffolk Compact, which promotes partnership working between local authorities and voluntary and community organisations, defines volunteering as:

• "An activity that involves spending time, unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit the environment or individuals or groups other than (or in addition to) close relatives."

The 2008 Place Survey which measured the percentage of unpaid help given to any groups, clubs or organisations, at least once per month in the previous 12 months showed that an average of 30.9% of people gave their time in Mid Suffolk which compares to 23% across England.
