Forum to discuss impact of new budgets system on disabled people
Optua is holding a Members' forum on Wednesday 16 July where disabled people will be able to discuss the introduction of Personal Budgets with key staff from Suffolk County Council's Adult and Community Service. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in disability issues.
The forum will focus on the new Self Directed Support system which is being brought in to give users of social care services their own individual budget for paying for care and services so that they have choice and control over the services they purchase.
This change will have a significant impact on Optua's members and the disabled people it works with. The responsibility for planning and purchasing services transfers from social workers to the disabled person themselves and there is a lot of concern in Suffolk as to how this will work. The forum is being held in the Main Hall of Needham Market Community Centre at 1pm, before Optua's Annual General Meeting.
The representatives from Suffolk County Council will be David Pintilie, Programme Manager (Self Directed Support); Kate Miles, Professional Lead Self Directed Support (Older People) and Martin Stevens, Operations and Partnerships Manager South.
Anyone with a disability, anyone who works with disabled people or who has a particular interest in this issue is welcome to attend. There will be refreshments available and anyone wishing to come along should call Optua on 01473 836777 or email enquiries@optua.org.uk
